Water works Nové Mlýny consists of three dams which are behind.
They built in 70th and 80th of last century.
The main reason was to accumulate water for irrigation, which would divorcing water throughout southern Moravia (35 000 ha) and part of Slovakia (10 000 ha). This should return the investment over several years. Because demand for water diminished , the project ceased to fulfill the original purpose.Currently, there are arguments about height levels for each stage.
Water works Nové Mlýny was build in two stages.In the first stage was 1974-1980, when it built the upper (Mušov) and middle (Věstonice) dam.
In the second stage, They built bottom (Nové Mlýny) dam.
Mušov (upper) dam
Upper water reservoir is near the village Pasohlávky and Brod na Dyjí.
Reservoir is the smallest of the Nové Mlýny dams, maximum depth is 4,3 m, when is normal water level , water surface elevation is 170,70 meters above sea level.
They exploit the reservoir for fishing,recreation and watersports.
The dam is secondary roads.
Věstonice (middle) dam Maximum depth on Věstonice reservoir is 4,5 m. The dam changed confluence Dyje river with rivers Jihlava and Svratka. When is normal water level, water surface elevation is 170 meters above sea level.
Water level reduced on 169,5 meters above sea level in 1995, thereby land size 50 ha emerged and they built two artificial islands (they cost 63 000 000 CZK). Water level increased on 170 meters above sea level in 2011,that's why water flooded most islands. The reservoir is bird Sanctuary now.
The dam around the reservoir is rockfill. On the dam is six spillways, length of one spillway is 23,3.
Nové Mlýny (bottom) dam Nové mlýny reservoir is greatest, the surface area is 1 668 ha and maximum depth in reservoir is 7 meters.
Two Kaplan turbines with total installed capacity 2,5 MW is in dam.
Near the dam is main turbine ,which has got installed capacity 2,3 MW. Absorption capacity of the turbine is 30 m3/s.
Second turbine is in secondary dike. This turbine has got installed capacity 0,2 MW and Absorption capacity of the turbine is 4 m3/s.
